With a career spanning over 30 years, Khan is considered one of the most popular and respected artists in Indian cinema. He has been awarded numerous awards including 9 Filmfare Awards, 4 National Film Awards, and an AACTA Award, and has even received an Academy Award nomination for one of his film productions. In 2003, he was honored by the Government of India with the Padma Shri and in 2010, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan. In 2017, he was also honored by the Government of China with a prestigious award.

Khan is a versatile personality, having worked as a film producer, director, screenwriter, talk-show host, model, TV personality, businessman, and social media influencer.
Khan made his debut in the film industry as a child artist in Yaadon Ki Baaraat (1973) and his first lead role was in the film Holi (1984). Amir gained fame with his major role in Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988) and his performance in Raakh (1989) earned him a National Film Award. He established himself as a leading actor in the 1990s with commercially successful films like Dil (1990), Raja Hindustani (1996), for which he won his first Filmfare Award for Best Actor, and Sarfarosh (1999).
