Rahul Gandhi was born in Delhi on June 19, 1970. He is the older of two children of former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. His mother, Sonia Gandhi, is originally from Italy and is now an Indian citizen. Gandhi’s younger sister, Priyanka Vadra, is married to entrepreneur Robert Vadra. Gandhi attended St. Columba’s School in Delhi for his early schooling, and then studied at The Doon School in Dehradun, Uttarakhand from 1981 to 1983.
After completing his studies, he worked for three years at the consulting firm Monitor Group in London, which was founded by management guru Michael Porter. Rahul returned to India in late 2002 and became the director of a technology outsourcing firm called Backops Services Private Ltd. in Mumbai.

After his grandmother, Indira Gandhi, was assassinated, he and his sister Priyanka were home-schooled for security reasons. He received his undergraduate degree from St. Stephen’s College at Delhi University, and then attended Harvard University in Massachusetts.
