Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania (February 17, 2023)
The third installment in the Ant-Man series, Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, is set to release on February 17, 2023. Directed by Peyton Reed, the film will see the return of Paul Rudd as Scott Lang (Ant-Man) and Evangeline Lilly as Hope van Dyne (The Wasp), along with Michael Douglas as Hank Pym and Michelle Pfeiffer as Janet van Dyne. The film will also introduce Jonathan Majors as Kang the Conqueror, a time-traveling villain who has been confirmed to play a major role in the MCU going forward.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (May 5, 2023)
James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy series has been a fan favorite since the first film released in 2014, and the third installment is set to hit theaters on May 5, 2023. The film will see the return of the entire cast, including Chris Pratt as Peter Quill (Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax, Bradley Cooper as Rocket, and Vin Diesel as Groot. The plot is still largely unknown, but it has been confirmed that the film will serve as the end of this iteration of the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Fantastic Four (Feb 14, 2025)
The Fantastic Four are finally coming home to Marvel Studios, with a new film set to release on July 28, 2023. Directed by Jon Watts (who also directed Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home), the film will feature a new cast of actors portraying the superhero family, although no casting announcements have been made yet. The Fantastic Four have been a long-awaited addition to the MCU, and fans are eagerly anticipating their arrival.
Blade (September 6, 2024)
Blade, the half-vampire superhero who hunts other vampires, is getting a reboot with Mahershala Ali in the titular role. The film is set to release on October 6, 2023, and will be directed by Bassam Tariq. Ali has already made a name for himself in the MCU, having appeared as Cottonmouth in the Netflix series Luke Cage. Fans are excited to see what he will bring to the role of Blade.
Captain America 4 (February 16, 2024)
Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson took up the mantle of Captain America at the end of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, and now he’s getting his own film. Captain America 4 is set to release on February 16, 2024, and will be directed by the series’ head writer, Malcolm Spellman. Mackie’s performance as Captain America has been widely praised, and fans are eager to see what adventures he’ll have in his own film.
Deadpool 3 (November 8, 2024)
Disney has confirmed that the next time Deadpool appears in a movie, it will be as part of the MCU. Deadpool 3, set to release on 11/08/24, will see Ryan Reynolds reprising his role as the Merc With The Mouth. The movie will also feature Hugh Jackman as Wolverine/Logan, marking the first X-Men movie in development since Disney acquired Fox. Fans were surprised to hear that Deadpool 3 would be part of the MCU Phase 5, as it was originally announced for a September release but was delayed, likely due to production issues with Blade.
Thunderbolts (July 26, 2024)
The MCU’s Thunderbolts, said to be similar to Suicide Squad, will premiere on July 26th, 2024. Kevin Feige revealed the release date during the MCU SDCC 2022 panel, with the cast and characters announced later at Disney’s D23. Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) has been mysteriously recruiting characters in Phase 4, leading many to believe that her actions are linked to the Thunderbolts. Confirmed members of the team include Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), U.S. Agent/John Walker (Wyatt Russell), Taskmaster/Antonia Dreykov (Olga Kurylenko), Red Guardian/Alexi Shostakov (David Harbour), and Ghost/Ava Starr (Hannah John-Kamen).
There’s no word yet on whether Baron Zemo (Daniel Brühl) will be part of the team, but fans are speculating that General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross (Harrison Ford) might join and become the MCU Red Hulk. However, Valentina de Fontaine could also become Red She-Hulk, as Marvel often adapts elements loosely from the comics. The Thunderbolts are the antihero counterpart of the Avengers in Marvel Comics and have a large roster of members. The final Thunderbolts lineup has not been confirmed, and Marvel is keeping some details under wraps to avoid spoilers for upcoming projects.
Avengers: The Kang Dynasty (May 2, 2025)
The new Avengers movie, titled “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty,” will be released in 2025 as the second part of a crossover event, with the first being “Avengers: Secret Wars.” It will feature Kang the Conqueror as the main villain and Jonathan Majors will reprise his role as the character. The movie will serve as the culmination of the multiverse saga in Phase 6 of the MCU.
Avengers: Secret Wars (May 1, 2026)
Avengers: Secret Wars, the second new Avengers movie, will be released in May 2026 and is expected to be a multiverse-spanning movie that draws from both Secret Wars (1984) and Secret Wars (2015). It will likely end Phase 6 and be bigger in scale than Endgame. No news on the cast yet, but there are already speculations about who could show up in the movie.
Venom 3 (Release Date TBD)
Sony is confirmed to have started development on Venom 3, but there’s no release date yet. Tom Hardy will continue to play Eddie Brock and Venom. There are potential villains for Venom to face in the third movie, and while it’s unlikely that Tom Hardy’s Venom will face Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, there are rumors that Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man could be introduced to the on-screen Venom universe.
New Tom Holland Spider-Man Trilogy (Release Date TBD)
Tom Holland has signed on with Disney and Marvel for a second Spider-Man trilogy, but there are no further details yet. It’s likely to debut after 2025 and might be a late addition to Phase 5 or 6, similar to Spider-Man: Homecoming. There’s been no indication of a new Tom Holland Spider-Man movie in the near future, and it’s a better-kept secret than Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire’s appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Spider-Women (Release Date TBD)
Sony plans to release an all-female Spider-Man film called Spider-Women, which is intended as a spin-off from Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. The movie will feature Gwen Stacy’s Spider-Gwen as the main character, as well as other female Spider-Women from Marvel Comics such as Jessica Drew (a.k.a. Spider-Woman) and Cindy Moon (a.k.a. Silk). Bek Smith is writing the screenplay and there are ongoing talks to have Lauren Montgomery direct the movie, but no release date has been confirmed yet.
Jackpot (Release Date TBD)
Sony has been developing a Jackpot movie since 2018, with the project confirmed to be fully underway in 2020. The film is based on a Marvel Comics character and the screenplay is being written by Marc Guggenheim, known for his work on various TV shows and movies. The Jackpot moniker has been used by two characters in the comics – Sara Ehret and Alana Jobson. It’s unclear which version the movie will use. Despite Jackpot being a relatively minor Marvel character, this shows that there is potential for a wide range of future projects within and outside of the MCU.
